"DEAR BROTHER IN CHRIST"

by Dan Nicholls

May I share with you a burden on my heart?  It appears that you, (like myself until recently), use a new version of the Bible, which I have discovered, is great cause for concern.  Please understand, that as a fellow brother in Christ, I care about your well-being, your spiritual vitality, and those who are influenced by you.  So if I may, could I share some brief thoughts regarding the new Bible version scenario upon us, and see if that position lines up with what God says in His Word about His Words?  God’s Word has to be our final authority.  Obviously, no true believer should hold to a belief that is contrary to the Bible.  To begin with, please try to recall the Scripture verses that state:

(1) God lies.
(2) God can fail
(3) God can change.
(4) God will not preserve His Words.
(5) His Words are not important, and they will pass away.
(6) Every Word of God is not always true.
(7) Every Word of God is not always precious.
(8) Every Word of God is not always pure.
(9) His Words were without error, only in the original autographs.
(10) Only the concepts, doctrinal positions, or general principles found in Scripture are important; not each and every word.
(11) God has no problem with men who add to His Words, or who take away from His Words.
(12) “Man’s wisdom” can override God’s Word as the final authority.

At this point, you are undoubtedly thinking, that there are no verses of Scripture that state, or even allude to the above 12 statements.  You are exactly correct, and that is exactly the point!  Yet, in reality, those 12 foolish positions are exactly where the new version advocate finds himself trapped in; that is, if he honestly evaluates his version posture in the light of God’s Word!!  Simply put, a new version proponent is faced with a huge dilemma.  His so-called “higher critical” assumptions not only do not match up with God’s Words, they are in defiance of it!  By using a new version of the Bible, in effect, one ignores nearly all of the scripture verses regarding what God says about His Words!  It is absolutely impossible to hold to both positions.  You either believe the Bible, or you assume that modern higher-critical theories are correct.

In order for a proponent of the new versions to justify the multiplying versions climate, whereby thousands of word changes (especially deletions) exist in hundreds of new Bible version/paraphrases, he has to deny the Bible verses that state that all of God’s precious, pure Words will be preserved forever! I realize that these are shocking statements, for what born-again believer would dare to treat Scripture in this manner?  Yet, (unknowingly perhaps), the person using the new Bible versions can no longer believe that every Word of God is true, pure, precious, inspired, and preserved; nor can one respectfully heed God's warnings towards those who “add to or take away His Words.” For example, try to explain how the popular NIV Bible can excuse the removal of over 64,000 words, including 17 complete verses!

There are also many major discrepancies where incredibly, vital doctrine is affected.  Generally speaking, the new versions lower God and elevate man, erode the deity of Christ and the holiness of the Holy Spirit.  For example, if you compare the following verses in the KJV with most new versions, the differences are incredible. (Psalms 8:5; Acts 8:37; Isaiah 14:12-15; I John 5: 7,8,13; Luke 2: 33,43 etc.)  To be sure, many of the thousands of word differences may seem to be trifle by some readers, but to God, it is no small matter, (as stated in Psalms 138:2, “…for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.”).  If God is serious about His Words, shouldn’t we be?…Scripture says:

(1) God has a very high regard for His Word:  Psalms 119:105,130.  Psalms 138:2.  Ephesians 6:18.  Hebrews 4:12.
(2) All Scripture is inspired:  II Timothy 3:16-17.  II Peter 1:21.
(3) Every one of His words are precious and pure:  Proverbs 30:5-6.  Deuteronomy 8:3.  Matthew 5:18.  Psalms12:6-7.  Psalms 18:30.  Psalms 19:8.  Psalms 119:140.
(4) God promised He would preserve continuously, forever, every one of His pure precious Words:  Psalms12:6-7.  Psalms 119:160.  Isaiah 40:8.  I Peter 1:23-25.  Matthew 4:4.  Matthew 24:35.  I Kings 8:56.
(5) God has strong warnings for altering His Words: Revelation 22:18-19.  Deut. 12:32.  Deut. 4:2.  Proverbs 30:5-6.  Psalms 50:16-17.

Skirting the issue, proponents of the new versions compound further their heresy by pontificating, "All of the versions contain God's Words, but only the original manuscripts are without error." Does it say anywhere in the Bible, that there are bound to be copying mistakes and translation problems that are beyond God’s control; thereby assuming that only the original, inspired, manuscripts are without error?  No!  There is no verse anywhere that even begins to come close.  Instead, God, with the highest premium placed on each and every Word, has promised to preserve His Words!  “Is God a man that He should lie?” Has modern day Christianity’s view of God turned toward Deism, relegating the Almighty so weak and distant that He couldn’t preserve His Words as He promised?  So what do we believe?…the marketing ploys of the lucrative publishing industry, or man’s wisdom, (even if many well known Christian leaders and Christian institutions have “shelved” God’s Words, and have become vulnerable to deception),… or do we believe God’s Word?  That is the issue.

Does it say in the Bible that only His thoughts or concepts are inspired, not each and every Word?  No, it says the opposite, right down to the “jot and tittle!”  Finding God’s Words is not some mystical search, “like looking for the Holy Grail;”…or after reading and comparing several versions, YOU can come up with an idea of what YOU think God is communicating to you.  I can’t help but get the opinion now days, that when the typical new-version pastor prepares his sermons, he mistakenly compares versions with versions; instead of searching the Bible, comparing Scripture with Scripture. There was only one “Hebrew version” around when Jesus said to search the Scriptures.  The very idea of even having more than one “Hebrew version” would have been unthinkable then, because it would have defied God’s standards about His Words.  Having been subjected to the strictest of copying standards, God’s Words right down to the very punctuation marks, were accurate.  He did not say, “search all the versions you can and get a consensus of opinion.”

If you say that you do believe God's Word, then which English Bible (out of all those hundreds of versions/paraphrases the lucrative publishing business has been marketing upon us) is the real, true, preserved Word of God?  There can be only one, for a believer cannot condone all these thousands of word differences, additions and deletions, in all these versions; and in the same breath, then say that he lines up with Scripture.   If God has promised in his Word that He would preserve His Word, and He holds each and every word in such high esteem, then which Bible is accurate one, the one that God preserved?…(a question that new version advocates cannot answer, or desire to think about, it seems).

The wonderful promises God has concerning His Words, especially regarding preservation, are a crushing condemnation of the “hodgepodge” of Bible versions we have this century.  It would be disastrous for them to decide on only one Bible, because then they would have to admit that all the other versions are corrupted, and would have to be discarded.  Modern scribes would be stripped of their “license” to mutilate the Words of God; greed and profit would be exposed as the real forces behind the lucrative publishing companies, that are churning out version after version.  Their deceptive marketing ploys would be exposed as false, for God’s truth (that He and His Words are unchanging) would prevail.

As for all of our Christian leaders, seminary and Christian college teachers, and pastors who have “gone with the flow of the new version status quo,” (our duped watchmen of the church walls, I’m sad to say), I would hope there would be genuine repentance.  We should weep and pray for our brother believers, not attack them.  We all have feet of clay, and but by the Grace of God, there go you and I.  Let the power of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God do their mighty work in our pastors; and then fully armed, pastors would be enabled to lead their flocks the way God intended.   Then, feasting on the “nutritious” Word of God, instead of the “junk-food” versions, the anemic Bride of Christ would be become nourished and strengthened.  She would forsake her former address, “Laodicea,” (truly armed with the “sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God”) and effectively attack Satan’s kingdom.  Seeking and calling on the Name of the Lord, believers and churches would restore prayer to its rightful place of preeminence.  How else can the body of Christ stand against the powers of darkness (especially when end-times are upon us), unless she has the unquenched power of the Holy Spirit wielding the indomitable Word of God?….

The believer’s only offensive spiritual weapon, (the "sword of the Spirit is the Word of God,... which is quick and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword,") has been relegated to that of a "butter knife" by the new versions.  No longer can the typical new version pastor, say with conviction upon the authority of God's Word, "Thus saith the Lord," because having joined the popular "flow of the status quo," (new version thought), he doesn’t know for sure what God’s Words truly are!  Sometimes, when confronted by clear scripture that is not to his liking, so often the “pet” response is a retort, “That is just your interpretation!”  (which may be nothing more than an attempt to avoid the unpleasant truth; for his opinion can conveniently, and ever so subtly, replace God’s Word as his final authority)  With the "wisdom of man" eroding our once "firm foundation," the new version scenario has spawned a Biblical climate of doubt and confusion that has contaminated the body of Christ.  Is God the author of confusion?
Faced with stacks of different Bibles, with thousands of word deletions, additions, and even whole verses removed, not to mention damaging editors’ notations, who is to say for sure any more, that every Word in their Bible is the true Word of God?...and so people wonder, "Did God really say that?"...which is precisely the same Satanic deception the Serpent attacked God's Words with in the Garden of Eden, when he hissed, "Yea, hath God said...?  Satan knew he could never destroy God’s Words, but if he could cause people to have doubt as to what are God’s Words, their faith would waver.  With a climate of uncertainty shadowing the Bible, Satan’s seduction continues.  Man is not so inclined to obey and be guided by all of God’s Words, especially in those areas that are now so “religiously or politically correct.”  It comes as no surprise too, that as our Bible seems to become less credible, believers become more reluctant to obey God’s Word.  Worldliness abounds in the church; and even in the name of Christianity, some believers are being carried away by ideas and activities that are not backed up by scripture.    Doesn’t this erosion of our sure foundation, our final authority, remind us of God’s warnings in Scripture’s descriptive “end-times” verses:  I Timothy 3:1-7; 4:1-4.  II Thessalonians 2:3-4.  Titus 1:15-16.  Ephesians 5:6-7.  II Peter 2:1-3, 18-19; 3:3-5,16.

Check the men and the manuscripts who are behind the new versions, and you will be amazed how Satan has pulled off this incredible hoax.  Up until fairly recently, I had mistakenly assumed that all of our Bibles had come from ONE common source of Greek and Hebrew manuscripts.  Instead, the truth is that all English new versions were translated from a far different manuscript base than that of the Authorized KJV Bible.  God’s hand of preservation is clearly seen in the men and the manuscripts of the KJV, (representing more than 90% of the 5000 plus manuscripts, and the very oldest ones as well).  Whereas, shelved and ignored for more than 1500 years, the inept sources of the new versions show no evidence of God’s preservation and handiwork.  Instead, what is really evident is Satan’s corruption and deception.  The evidence is astounding!

I say all of this for your own good...("faithful are the wounds of a friend...")  Please "do your homework."  The choice is yours.  You can "mount up with wings as eagles," or you can be like an "ostrich sticking his head in the sand," ignore the issue, and foolishly hope it will all go away.  It won’t…. because God has promised that “my word…shall not return unto me void.”  Do you want your life to waver in the “shifting sands of the new versions,” or do you need the firmness of a rock, the real “Word of God?”  God’s Word has to be our final authority, and thereby totally sufficient to meet man’s every need. May the Holy Spirit guide you and may the Holy Bible be your firm foundation.  Let us never forget Psalms 12:6-7 where it says, “The Words of the Lord are pure Words;…thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”

In closing, I am reminded of the words of the old hymn, “Tis so Sweet to Trust in Jesus,” and how precious they are:

Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take Him at His Word,
Just to rest upon His promise, Just to know, Thus saith the Lord.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Ephesians 6:17 (KJV)

Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17 (KJV)

For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
2nd Peter 1:21 (KJV)

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.  Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
Proverbs 30:5-6 (KJV)

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
Deuteromony 8:3 (KJV)

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Isaiah 40:8 (KJV)

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.  For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away;  But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
1st Peter 1:23-25 (KJV)

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

The Word of God is not only the spoken and written Words of God, but also is the very Son of God, Jesus Christ:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John 1:1&14 (KJV)

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
1st John 5:7 (KJV)

And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

God has strong warnings for altering, adding to or taking away His Words:

For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

saith the LORD.
28: He that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully.
29-31:  Is not my word like as a fire?  saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces? Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words every one from his neighbour. Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith.
36: …for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.
39: Therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you, and I will forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and cast you out of my presence:
40: And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame, which shall not be forgotten.

And some final thoughts…

If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

 Psalms 11:3 (KJV)

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Acts 17:11 (KJV)

He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
Proverbs 18:13 (KJV)

Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
1st Corinthians 1:10 (KJV)

Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
Romans 16:17 (KJV)

 "PASTOR, WHO SHARES YOUR PULPIT?"

by Dan Nicholls

When pastors preach from one of today's new version Bibles, I seriously doubt they know who (in a sense), they are "sharing their pulpit" with.  Few Christians, (pastors included) are probably not aware that all new English versions of the Bible are the product of a corrupted Greek text that is far different from the vast amount of sources that have given us the Authorized King James Bible.  All new versions have been spawned from a far different textual source that two, apostate, English, "high churchmen" named Westcott and Hort concocted in 1881.  God's defining parameters of His Word were bypassed and defied, for "man's so-called wisdom" subtly became the final authority.  (Scripture says that each and every Word of God, right down to the jot and the title, is absolutely pure, true, precious and preserved forever.  And it is accompanied by grave warnings to those who add to or take away His precious Words.) By using this counterfeit text as their source, modern scribes have forged a license to mutilate God's Word.  If pastors knew the background, the un-Godly beliefs and utter disdain the "fathers of all new versions," had for God's precious Words, there should be major cause for alarm….especially when Westcott and Hort may also be considered the "fathers" of the modern, occult channeling movement!!!   "By their fruits, ye shall know them."

Please ask yourself, "What kind of people would God entrust to handle, preserve or translate His precious Words?"  Would they be genuine born-again believers, or would they be apostate scoffers of God's standards?  Furthermore, "What kind of people would Satan use to undermine the validity of God's Words?".

Satan is not just interested in adding to and taking away God's Words in a multiplying, changing, differing scenario of hundreds of English Bibles. He is not just content by making subtle doctrinal changes or watering down the holiness of the Holy Spirit and the deity of our Saviour.  As serious as those things are, it is much more than that.  By the very presence of increasing numbers of new versions, Satan knows that the stage has been craftily set whereby believers can't really know for certain that each and every Word in their Bible can be counted on as being the pure, true Word of God. At least 15 complete verses, hundreds of partial verses and thousands of individual words have been stricken in each new version Bible.  By undermining the validity of God's Word, (as he did in the Garden of Eden, "Yea, hath God said?…") that subtle cloud of doubt has easily brought on disobedience in today's Laodician Bride of Christ.  True Christianity will not exist without solid confidence in the Word of God.

Can you imagine what Westcott and Hort would be thinking if they were alive today?  I believe that without a doubt, they would be gloating over the fact that gullible Christianity has largely fallen for their text's offspring versions and the validity of Scripture has been undermined.  Let's take it another step further.  Let's imagine, (in the following "tongue-in-cheek" letter) they smugly thank the pastor for allowing them (in the form of his new version) to share his pulpit.  But then with disdain (as the shaken, sweating pastor starts to realize the incredible deception and the massive damage done to the church), Westcott and Hort boldly expose their corrupted beliefs.

Many "tongue-in-cheek" letters are meant to be humorous.  This one is not.  It's purpose is to expose the Satanic handiwork that underlies his attack upon the Word of God.  May you not only realize the truth, but may you also be willing to take a stand for it.  Perhaps you would like to copy this letter and give it to someone else, especially your pastor.

Dear Pastor,

My fellow co-worker and I would like to begin by saying "thank you" for having us in your pulpit.  We appreciate being an important part of your church's program, and being able to influence your flock on a regular basis.  You probably don't remember us, but you have no idea the extent we have been affecting your congregation.   Recently though, we have been encountering some negative reactions from some parishioners.  (You know…those old-fashioned types who think that since God said He would preserve His Word forever, there can therefore be only one true English Bible.) We think it is in our best interests that you should be aware of the situation, in case a problem should arise.  (We have an "image" to protect, you know.)

These adversaries though, are mostly "grass-roots" types, and probably shouldn't be considered much of a threat.  Most Christians use our new version products, including our many supporters in Christian seminaries, colleges and institutions; and certainly, the publishing business people, (who are quite aware that a new different  version = copyright = more money…) and of course, the majority of the pastors, (especially those famous ones).  Nevertheless, these growing numbers of "Bible-thumpers" do cause us some concern at times.  If only they would stop saying, "the Bible says…," and just listen to us, and other scholarly intellectuals.  After all, we have the advantage of understanding today's theories of critical, textual, analysis of the scriptures.

They are "hung up" on the notion that God stressed great importance on each and every Word being pure, precious and preserved.  Therefore they just don't get it that the "word-for-word translation" of their KJB is no match for our "dynamic equivalency."  (Our modern term that gives us freedom to add to and take away Scripture.) Not only do these "back-woods," "Bible-quoting bumpkins" detest our beliefs, they also claim we have perpetuated a hoax!  And not just any hoax.  They actually claim we have perpetuated upon the kingdom of God the most deceptive hoax in the last 2000 years! We are confident that after you have read this list, and because you have shared your pulpit with us, that you will stand with us in our defense too.  Can you believe they are upset with us because of our following beliefs?

  • We do not believe the Bible is the verbally inspired, inerrant word of God.

  • We believe the Bible's old manuscripts aren't any different from the ones of ancient Greece or Rome.  None are inspired.

  • Evangelicals like Moody, don't impress us; but Darwin sure does.

  • Forget the Genesis account of creation; go with evolution instead.

  • Let's not get carried away with these notions that there is a hell or a devil, or a literal heaven…but there is a purgatory.

  • The idea that Christ died for our sins is simply ridiculous.

  • The doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church are more nearer to the truth than that of the evangelicals.  Those people, like Moody, are perverted, unsound, confused, and dangerous.

  • What is so bad about socialism and communism?

  • Yes, we are into the occult, active with necromancy, and considered as "Fathers of the modern channeling movement," but let's not advertise that…

  • As for being racist, yes I did say:  "the niggers themselves…they have surely shown themselves only as an immeasurably inferior race, just human and no more, their religion frothy and sensuous, their highest virtues those of a good Newfoundland dog!"  (Arthur Hort, "The Life and Letters of F.J.A. Hort," Vol. 1 - NY: Macmillan & Co. 1896, page 458) ....  However, let's not broadcast that quote either, for if this information ever got into the hands of African-American Christians, it could produce quite a "backlash."

  • Using deception, perversion, and "strong-arm" tactics, we were able to convince English Bible revision scribes to ignore the manuscript base of the Authorized KJV. Despite it's massive amount of credible documents and historical Christian evidence, in 1881 we accomplished our goal of undermining that villainous text! Incredibly, we pulled this off using mainly, two discarded manuscripts, which with the rest, added up to only about 1% of the available sources! The revisionist editors, (most of whom shared beliefs similar to our own) accepted our lies = that our newly-invented Greek text (having thousands of word deletions, contradictions, errors, etc.) was the oldest and the best, and even "bought" our critical textual theories.

  • In short, we are proud to claim that all (more than 100) subsequent English Bible versions from 1881, (the NIV, NASB, NKJV, RSV, Amplified, Living Bible, New Living Translation, etc., etc.) have utilized our theories, and have used our text as their base!  Isn't is great that "we," ( our offspring new version Bibles) could be in your pulpit?

But the fruits of our efforts have gone far beyond pastors' pulpits.  That is just the "tip of the iceberg."  We have spawned a "new order" that has permeated Christianity.  No longer can a believer say with certainty that the Bible is his sure foundation, for that concept is now eroded.  Faced with a confusing scenario of hundreds of different versions and paraphrases, who can say with assurance their Bible is the 100% totally true, absolutely trustworthy, pure Word of God?  Man can't stand upon a foundation that is is doubt.  Man is no longer bound by absolute truth.  Man is liberated!  He is freed to determine what He deems scripture might be saying.  The Bible, no longer, is Thee literal Word of God; it just contains words of God.  Therefore individual words don't matter as long as we point out some truth there.

By swallowing the bait that our made-up textual theories have "crowned" ONLY TWO discarded manuscripts as the closest to the originals, we have simply removed the old fashioned Biblical notions that every single Word of God is pure, precious, true, and preserved.  The Bride of Christ is so pathetically ignorant of God's defining standards of His Word, that we can even scorn those scriptural warnings against those who "add to or take away God's Words." THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW THAT THE POPULAR NIV HAS REMOVED 17 COMPLETE VERSES!  [MATTHEW 17:21,18:11, 23:14, MARK 7:16, 9:44, 9:46, 11:26, 15:28, LUKE 17:36, 23:17, JOHN 5:4, ACTS 8:37, 15:34, 24:7, 28:28, ROMANS 16:24 AND I JOHN 5:7!]…NOT TO MENTION THE 45 ADDITIONAL VERSES THAT HAVE BEEN EFFECTIVELY STRICKEN BY THE EDITOR'S FOOTNOTES! WHEN A FINAL TALLY HAS BEEN MADE, THE NIV HAS REMOVED 64,576 WORDS!

The trouble is though, that if believers find out that their Bible has been ripped apart like that, we can no longer fall back on the deception that "the Greek can be translated in a different way."  They may be gullible, but they are not so stupid to think that a Greek verse can be translated a certain way and then that same Greek verse be "translated" another time with absolutely no words!

Of course the publishing business executives absolutely appreciate us, for our invented text has also forged a new license to adjust, invent, and copyright new version Bible$.   The Christian public is so gullible.  All we have to do is get our products marketed in Christian bookstores, and they then assume they are Biblical.  Their biggest joke is that they actually believe that all the new versions have done is to have translated the Greek a little better and have replaced the archaic English with modern speech.  They cannot even realize that therefore, it has taken more than 100 new versions in the last 100 years to update all the "changes" the English language has supposedly gone through!  We can't help but smirk though, because in their impossible quest to actually know what the Bible is saying, how many new versions [ 5, 10, 50, 100, 300, 450 ] will they feel compelled to buy before they supposedly "get a handle on the truth?".

And naturally, pastors can no longer say in their sermons with solid assurance, "Thus saith the Lord," because if they are honest, they really can't say with certainty, what words really are God's Words.  Man is free from God's restraint!  He is now his own authority, for “thus saith the Lord,” has now been replaced with doubt,   ( “Yea, hath God said,” ).  And our bait, Satan's carrot, ( “ye shall be as gods!” ) is so tempting.  With the restraints curtailed, man can now dissolve the differences that divide the world's religions. The ecumenical, one world church will soon be a reality, for now man controls his own destiny!  Absolutes are out and "relatives" are in.

Well pastor, what do you think?  You seem to be squirming, as if you sense you have been deceived.  Oh, have you let God down?  Surely, you are not thinking you may have made an oversight having us in your pulpit?  Forget it!  Don't you even toy with the idea you might have made a mistake, or need to check out the facts.  What is important here, is what people think of you. Status is everything; "go with the flow of the status quo."   Even though your use of the new versions reflects what you were probably taught in a seminary, you can't forsake what your professors taught you.  Besides, how could you effectively minister any more, if you admit to an error of such magnitude?

If you went back to the KJV, why, you would be the laughingstock of your parish; not to mention all of your seminary colleagues, and the fellow pastors of your denomination!  And what about all those famous preachers who promote the new versions?  I know what you're thinking.  We know they are just mere mortals too.  But hey, there are some "big" names out there.  So what, if in the minds of many Christians the Bible's final authority has been replaced by some popular preacher's influence.  There is no way that men of such famous acclaim could be wrong,.. is there?  And besides, you don't really believe that bunk that someday we are all going before the Judgment Seat of Christ to give an account, do you?…  I'm sure you realize the value of our "wisdom."

Now listen, I want to leave you with these words of advice.  Heed them well.  What ever you do, do not study or preach on, the subject of "what God's Word says about God's Word."  Those standards may confront or confuse you and besides, if there is any question about a verse, remember it's left up to your interpretation anyway.  So, it would be a waste of time and besides, your "final authority" should always be "man's wisdom" anyway.

As you know, even though secular education promotes evolution, most Christians refuse to believe in it, because the theory contradicts the Genesis account of creation.  By the same token, it is of the utmost importance that these believers don't ever come to the realization that our so-called scientific textual theories are in direct opposition to scripture as well!  They must be kept in the dark that our new versions have stricken complete verses and thousands of words.   Keep the impression alive that our new versions have simply updated the old English words of the Authorized King James Bible.  Let them continue to assume that our modern versions and the old KJV have come from the same pile of manuscripts; but for the more "scholarly" ones, they know that is not the case.  Just continue to perpetuate the delusion that our new versions are the offspring of a “better” Greek or Hebrew manuscript textual base.   But don’t' let the question be raised, "How could it be of God for how could He be the author of two very different textual bases that contradict each other?"

Oh yes, one more little trick we've pulled off is such a gem.  So many pastors and so-called experts love to open their modern Hebrew and Greek Lexicons (or dictionaries) and correct God's Word, especially the KJV.  What most Christians don't know is that most of the Greek/Hebrew lexicons and dictionaries were written by nonbelievers!   By our scribes inserting subtle changes in our new dictionaries, gullible believers conclude those KJV translators just didn't get it right.  For example pastor, Gerhard Kittel's impressive, ten volume Theological Dictionary of the New Testament must have a prominent place in your study's library.  It has been proclaimed as the best New Testament dictionary ever made.  However though, a word of caution is needed.  It's probably not a good idea (at this time of course ) to alert others of his "credentials." The same year he began work on his famous dictionary, Adolf Hitler hired him to be a theological voice in his propaganda against the Jews! Our German friend is also a convicted Nazi war criminal! You see Theologian Kittel played the major role in persuading the German populace that Jewish extermination was a righteous cause!

Our smart seminary graduates must love to hear themselves proclaim, "What this word or verse really means is…"  or "Actually, in the original Greek…"   So in a nut shell, we have not only spawned multitudes of Bibles through a corrupted text, we can even "prove" our position, because we have corrupted the dictionaries as well!  (So the issue really boils down to deciding, is the truth found in our modern textual theories and their trappings; or is it in what scripture says.)  Frankly, (and this is not for publication) this inability of our theories to match up with God's Words, is the "Achilles heel" of our cause.

If the Christian public ever realizes that the presence of all of our differing, changing, evolving new versions is in direct opposition to the standards God has on His Word, our money making deception will be over.  They must never realize that our new versions have ignored God's warnings about "adding to or taking away His Words."  They must never realize that if they accept our new version scenario, they have to also conclude that every Word of God is not necessarily pure, true and precious even though their Bible says they are.  (Not to mention that therefore they have just put their God in the category of one who can change, fail and yes, even lie!)   I'm simply amazed that more pastors, etc., haven't realized this by now.  But should the subject come up, play the role of the intellectual, KJV "corrector," and give them the "line" that no Bibles are without error; that only in the original manuscripts was there found the pure word of God.  If they start quoting those verses that claim God's Word, right down to the "jot and the title," will be preserved forever (and therefore perfectly), just get a little "huffy," and question their ability to translate Hebrew and Greek.  Ignore their "But the Bible says…" stance, and tell them their opinion should be based upon "man's wisdom" such as in the book, "The King James Only Controversy" by our pawn, James White.

Nail 'em with righteous sounding indignation from your pulpit.  Accuse them of causing disunity and even refer to them as dogs, but don't let those Bible-quoting detractors steer you away from your peer pressure, the popular "flow of the status quo." You don't want to be out of line with those well-known pastors…   Sometimes you just can't deal persuasively with those hard-heads, whose sole authority is the Bible.

Lastly, don't be too serious in your responsibilities as a pastor.  I know you're playing the role of the "shepherd leading his flock," and you are supposed to be a "watchman on the church walls;" but just forget what it says in Ezekiel 33:1-9 and 34:1-10! Those very serious verses pointing out your accountability don't apply to our modern times anyway.  Stick with the slick productions, the gimmicks, short services, no prayer meetings and "sprinkled" with psychology, you can really "tickle their ears!"

See you in the pulpit, guys,

Westcott and Hort

 EPILOGUE

 * "Westcott and Hort…all subsequent versions from the Revised Version (1881) to those of the present…have adopted their basic approach…(and) accepted the Westcott and Hort (Greek) text."  (by Zondervan spokesman, John R. Kohlenberger, "Words About the Word," Grand Rapids, Michigan:  Zondervan Publishing House, 1987, page 42)

"By their fruit, ye shall know them…"  I seriously doubt, if the truth was known and Westcott and Hort were alive today, no Bible believing church would allow them preach from their pulpit, or any of our evangelical seminaries and Christian institutions would embrace their apostasy.  Based on their ungodly beliefs, it would be unthinkable.  Yet, their legacy in the form of the new versions, is widely accepted.  Dear believer, if this subject seems too incredible to believe, I fully understand what you are feeling, because it wasn't that long ago I was using several new versions.  When information of this hoax confronted me, I was tempted to ignore the facts and the questions they raised.  But today, I thank God that He didn't let me rest, that I "did my homework," and I discovered the truth.  The defining standards of God's Word coupled with the incredible historical evidence on the subject, cannot be ignored.  God's Word now, means so much more to me, and I give Him all the praise.  Hosea 4:6 says,  "My  people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge…" and Psalms 11:3, " If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?"  Would you please, prayerfully consider this issue, and above all, do it in the light of  God's Word with the guidance of the Holy Spirit?  Thank you for taking the time to read this.  God bless you!

"Oops! An Open Book Test"

By Dan Nicholls

Greetings! Just when you thought your “school days” were over, would you mind taking a “test?” I’ve got good news, however. Why? 1. It is an “open book test”…and 2. Your results will not be published in the New York Times. I will promise you this though; because Christians generally, are unaware of this problem, most are going to be shocked and startled at the results. The truth revealed, should be a “wake-up call” to the most destructive, subtle, massive deception that has ever permeated true Christianity.

Jesus said: “…If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31-32

But first, we need to “set the stage” by a quick review of what God has said about His precious Word. Many verses state God’s standards regarding His Word, and in summary ; God’s Word states that each and every Word of God, (right down to the smallest jot and tittle) is absolutely, without question: inspired, true, pure, precious, powerful, preserved for ever and God has grave warnings about “adding to or taking away” His Words . Without this foundation doctrine firmly in place, a true vibrant Christianity will erode from within, and eventually cease to exist.

Satan has never ceased his war on discrediting and destroying God’s Word. History resounds with accounts of martyrs who died in preserving the Bible, but today, many are unaware of Satan’s deceptive attack from within “the walls.” A flood of differing, changing Bible versions is increasingly effecting doctrine and subtly choking believers with confusion and doubt as to the trustworthiness and veracity of God’s Word!! Words may say “The Holy Bible” on the cover...but if that book doesn’t measure up with all the standards God has for His Word, it has to be a counterfeit! If counterfeits are accepted within the “church walls,” they are bound to cause confusion and undermine confidence in our “sure foundation!” As Scripture warns, “For God is not the author of confusion…” I Cor. 14:33; “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Psalms 11:3; And, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17

TEST TIME: The only verse in the Bible that shows both the gospel being shared and the listener receiving the gift of salvation is that of Acts 8:37. The KJB states: “And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” (That’s a great gospel verse…right?!)

Now, with God’s high standards in mind, (especially God’s warning about “adding to or taking away” His precious Words) compare this vital verse of Acts 8:37 with what it says in a new version. (Typical of the new versions is the popular New International Version. So from now on I’ll just refer, for simplicity’s sake, to that of the NIV.)

So what does the new version or NIV say? ___________________________

Having trouble finding it? Surely it couldn’t be just a typo mistake, could it?…Let’s try another verse. Matthew 18:11 in the KJB says: “For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.” That is a powerful verse…is it not?

And the new version says? _________________________________________

If you are like most Christians, you are likely in shock; but incredibly, we’ve barely “scratched the surface!” The NIV (like the other hundreds of new versions) has removed at least 15 complete verses! Furthermore, using deceptive editors’ notes, the NIV has “removed” no less than 45 other verses…such as,… the last 12 verses in the book of Mark!

The NIV has ripped the heart and meaning out of hundreds of verses, such as the most important verse regarding the Trinity, found in I John 5:7! In total, the NIV has removed the equivalent of 30 books of the Bible, a stunning 64,576 words! The NIV is entitled “The Holy Bible,” but wouldn’t it be more appropriate to label it, a “bible with holes?”…

And yet, a gullible Christian public assumes the new versions are Bibles in modern English! If that’s the case, how did the 15 missing verses, etc., get “updated” by vanishing into thin air?! The marketing ploys of the new version advocates don’t tell the public that there are TWO differing manuscript streams, not ONE source any more!! To say another different stream (which was always rejected by true Christians for centuries) is now legitimate and inspired by God is absurd! Only one can be God’s pure Word and the other, a deception of Satan. God cannot speak “out of two sides of His mouth!!” Did God, for example inspire Matthew to pen TWO different “Matthews?”…or Mark or Luke etc.. If the standards of His Word no longer apply, then is “God a man that He should lie?”

Although all new versions are different, they are also similar in that they have come from an entirely different, error-ridden, manufactured “manuscript trickle.” In stark comparison, the manuscript river behind the KJB is massive! Showing incredible unity, a lineage of over 5,000 sources, (including the very oldest), born-again “caretakers” down through the centuries, despite numerous martyrdoms, were used by God to give mankind in 1611, the Authorized King James Bible. ALL NEW VERSIONS DO NOT COME FROM THIS GOD ORDAINED SOURCE!!

On the contrary, the background of the new versions is pathetic. Butchered and contaminated by non-Christian scribes, this “cesspool swamp,”( the source of the new versions) has hardly 44 sources, none of which agree. So what brought on all of these new versions?

In 1881 two English “high churchmen” apostates, named Westcott and Hort, (with a blatant disregard for God’s standards) attacked the KJB by replacing its textual base. As Satan’s tools, they concocted a so-called “better” Greek text, laden with corruption in its many “additions and subtractions.” For example, deceptively, Jesus Christ became less divine; the Holy Spirit lost considerable Holiness and often just became “the spirit.” If Westcott and Hort were alive today, no born-again pastor (that was aware of their racist, pro-evolution, occult, anti-God beliefs), would ever allow them to speak from his pulpit…..but yet, in a sense, they have,…. if the preacher uses a new version, that is…...

A few years ago, when I awakened to the truth and had gotten back into the KJB, I felt like I had taken a refreshing, spiritual shower. I felt cleansed of subtle wavering and doubt, for I was being filled with strength, confidence and peace. Praise The Lord!

May I challenge you to do as the Bereans were commended for doing? “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Acts 17:11

I pray that you to get back to your KJB. Would you rather use the real “sword of the Spirit” or some cheap “butter knives?!” Please do your homework! Using the standards of God’s Word, evaluate today’s new version scenario. Modern day Bible scribes are not only using corrupted sources, they have also given themselves “license” to further change Scripture….and therefore get $$$$$$ by showing enough “differences” to obtain a copyright! (Doesn’t the Bible warn that “the love of money is the root of all evil?”)…

The integrity of God’s Word is no light matter with God. Fellow believer, if you truly love God, don’t you feel an obligation to check out the incredible background exposing the men and the manuscripts behind the corrupt texts, and their offspring new versions as well?

“…choose you this day whom ye will serve…” Will it be the “so-called wisdom of man,” or will the Word of God be your “final authority?”

"Which is More Important, Unity or Truth?"

By Dan Nicholls

TRUE CHRISTIAN UNITY IS BROUGHT ON WHEN EVERYONE IS WALKING IN TRUTH.  Precious spiritual unity is a bi-product, the result of all walking in truth.  Therefore, seeking and obeying the truth should be our goal.  As wonderful as unity is, UNITY can never be our priority.  It has to be truth!  Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life…”  He made no mention that following him would bring on unity…in fact, he said the opposite!! Jesus said:

Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. (Luke 12:51-53 KJV)

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.  (Matthew 10:34-35 KJV)

DIVISION HAPPENS WHEN DECEPTION AND TRUTH ARE AT ODDS!  THEREFORE, WHEN THAT SCENARIO TAKES PLACE, OUR GOAL SHOULD BE TO SEEK THE TRUTH; NOT TO ACCOMMODATE OR “TURN A BLIND EYE” TO ERROR FOR THE SAKE OF ACHIEVING UNITY, SO-CALLED. COMPROMISING TRUTH FOR THE SAKE OF MAINTAINING UNITY IS COUNTER- PRODUCTIVE, NON-BIBLICAL AND COURTING DISASTER!

Experiencing unity in any setting is no proof that it is correct or of God.  A coven of Satanists could be UNIFIED in their goal of destroying Christianity, but in the absence of truth and scripture, their unity merely aids an evil cause.

IT SHOULD COME AS NO SURPRISE THAT STANDING FOR TRUTH MAY BRING ON DIVISION AND CONTROVERSY.

The appearance of Jesus brought division and the sword, not unity,

because it was at odds with Satan’s kingdom.

As unpleasant as division may be in taking a stand for truth, it may be inevitable.

“IT IS BETTER TO BE DIVIDED BY TRUTH,

THAN TO BE UNITED IN ERROR!”

When a question, division or an issue arises, we should take note of the highly- commended Bereans of Acts 17.  Their solution was a Biblical quest for truth, not a mission to accommodate various views.  It also may be said that they did not avoid an issue.  They readily did their homework…knowing full well the common sense of Proverbs 18: 13: He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

(Sadly today, regarding a vital subject that may take on the trappings of being divisive or controversial, it appears that some believers shy away from doing their Biblical homework.  Some may be content to let the so-called “wisdom of man” instead of God’s Word be their final authority.)  Mere man can be wrong.  God’s Word can never be wrong.  The Bereans were “of the mold” that “If God said it, they believed it and that was good enough for them.” = a view that seems to be vanishing increasingly, in much of Christianity these days….

These (The Bereans) were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. (Acts 17:11)

THEY DID THEIR SCRIPTURE HOMEWORK, AND THEIR BELIEFS REFLECTED IT.  THEY DID NOT JUST “PARROT” WHAT SOME MERE-MORTAL SAID.  IT WAS “SOLA SCRIPTURA!”  THE BIBLE WAS INDEED THEIR FINAL AUTHORITY, WHICH IS EXACTLY THE APPROACH GOD WANTS US TO TAKE! (PSALMS 119)

Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
(1 Corinthians 1:10)

THIS VERSE LEADS US TO A CONTROVERSIAL SUBJECT WITHIN MODERN DAY CHRISTIANITY, PERHAPS THE MOST CONTROVERSAL;… THAT OF BIBLE VERSIONS!   CHRISTIANS WHO BELIEVE THAT GOD WOULD WANT ONE PURE ENGLISH BIBLE; (NOT HUNDREDS of DIFFERING VERSIONS), HAVE BEEN LABELED “KING JAMES-ONLY” BELIEVERS.  THESE CHRISTIANS HAVE BEEN ATTACKED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS; OFTEN ACCUSED OF CAUSING DIVISION IN THE CHURCH, OR BEING INTOLERANT OF ACCEPTING THE OTHER HUNDREDS OF NEW VERSIONS.

MANY CHRISTIANS THOUGH, TAKE A PASSIVE, “HO HUM” APPROACH AND DON’T WANT TO GET INVOLVED USING “UNITY” AS AN EXCUSE TO AVOID THE ISSUE. BUT WAIT A MINUTE!!  SHOULD NOT THE ISSUE BE CHECKED OUT?!

IS THERE ANYTHING OF GREATER IMPORTANCE IN CHRISTIANITY THAN THAT OF THE BIBLE, THE FOUNDATION OF OUR FAITH?   AS IT SAYS IN PSALMS 11: 3: If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

But yet, on this subject of supreme importance,(the Bible), why is it that it seems the anti-KJB side is reluctant to search the scriptures and see what the Bible says about the Bible?  So often the opinions of well-known preachers, whose views don’t necessarily line up with scripture, may dominate their thinking.  (Just because the pond’s big fish have swallowed the bait, hook, line and sinker; doesn’t mean the rest of us have to.)

For 18 centuries, believers generally had a preserved, pure Bible but then in 1881, a corrupt deception began to infiltrate the “Bride of Christ.”  That error was "marked or exposed,” by a few knowledgeable Christians, but it was drowned out by other more powerful, worldly voices, and propelled by the “love of money.”  In the rush to look scientific and academic, Christianity started to swallow a major deception that was in defiance of the standards of God’s Word…. Gradually, ever so subtly, Christians were no longer unified in “speaking the same thing,” as the publishing companies began churning out hundreds of new versions, many seminaries foolishly became contaminated with “higher critical” views, and pastors increasingly shelved preaching on the attributes and standards of holy scripture.

Yet, Biblical doctrine states clearly that each and every word of God is absolutely inspired, true, pure, precious, preserved…. And that God has grave warnings to anyone that adds to or takes away His words!!

Defiant of Scripture’s standards, this subtle deception spawned a scenario of hundreds of differing, changing, multiplying, English new-versions. The resulting confusion bred a lack of trust in Scripture. This infusion of man’s “so called wisdom” has been subtly eroding our once firm foundation.  By comparison, cheap “butter knives” have been replacing our true, “quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword” Word of God, the Authorized King James Bible.

We have “sown to the wind and have reaped the whirlwind.”  Our Christian "address" is in luke-warm Laodicia!  Incredibly, many “so called watchmen on the church walls,” our pastors, are reluctant to be Berean and do proper homework. “Man’s so-called wisdom” has eroded Biblical truth, and in reality, the “new versions shaky ground” has subtly replaced our once firm foundation.

Jesus the good shepherd shows genuine love, care and compassion for all of his sheep.  He goes out of his way to seek the one lost sheep that has gone astray; but today’s pastor/shepherd sometimes conveys a much different, harsher view when it comes to the kjb/versions issue.  Some adamantly refuse to do their homework, having UNITY be paramount, or the “wisdom of man” dominate their thinking, even though it may contradict scripture.  In the pulpit, they usually become KJB “correctors,” even stooping to mock the KJB.  Incredibly, some “new-version advocates,” (pastors, etc.) viciously attack “KJB-Only” believers, accusing them of causing division…even to the point of giving them the “left foot of banishment,” …. But of course, all in the name of keeping unity in the church.

It seems as if there is no other issue within the church generally, that brings on such malicious activity, as illustrated by “anti-KJB-Only” people.  Could this be because Satan, the “father of lies,” absolutely hates the true sword of the spirit, the KJB, the only English Bible that abides by God’s standards?  He doesn’t mind it at all when our churches and believers go forth to battle him with cheap, counterfeit swords, albeit, butter knives.  The real issue of, “Does today’s multiplying, differing, confusing, Bible version scenario line up in accordance with the standards of scripture?” so often gets lost in the fray when UNITY is misdirected and exploited in place of TRUTH.

MISQUOTE THE BIBLE; PLAY “THE UNITY CARD;”

AND ATTACK!”

So often Romans 16:17 is quoted to “self-justify” attacks upon “KJB-only” believers.  Incredibly at times, showing dishonesty, new version advocates  supposedly point their “holier than thou finger” and incorrectly, quote the verse by saying:  "Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences; and avoid them.”  Wow!  Now if their quote of Romans is correct, then Jesus should be avoided because he not only caused division, he admitted to causing DIVISION!!…and it could be said that therefore, scripture contradicts itself, and that God is a liar!!!

Now what does Romans 16:17 actually say?  It says: "Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them." But notice that the key part of this verse are the words, "contrary to the doctrine.."  Those important words have  been deceptively shunned to therefore excuse themselves to go after anyone who is seemingly causing division by not agreeing with them.

By pointing one finger at the KJB-only people, THREE FINGERS are pointing back at them.  Why? NEW-VERSION PROMOTERS; NOT THE KJB-ONLY BELIEVERS, ARE THE ONES THAT ARE CONTRARY TO THE DOCTRINE OF THE HIGH STANDARDS OF SCRIPTURE!!!  NEW VERSION SCENARIO ADVOCATES ARE THE ONES CAUSING DIVISION!  HOW?  THEIR POSITION IS IN DEFIANCE OF SCRIPTURE’S DOCTRINAL STANDARDS!    HOW DARE THEY DEFEND A SCENARIO THAT ALLOWS FOR GOD’S WORDS “TO BE ADDED TO OR TAKEN FROM” IN THOUSANDS OF PLACES?  IF THEY WOULD ONLY DO HONEST HOMEWORK, THEY WOULD EASILY SEE THE FATHER OF LIES’ HANDIWORK IN ALL OF THIS DECEPTION AND THAT SATAN MISQUOTING SCRIPTURE CAN EVEN PLAY THE “UNITY CARD” TO HIS ADVANTAGE.

If unity is our priority, then truth will be swallowed up in deception.   Who is the winner then?  God or Satan?

"QUENCHING THE HOLY SPIRIT"

By Dan Nicholls

Another area of satanic deception that is weakening the Bride of Christ is founded in unscriptural doctrine and practices that stifle our relationship with the Holy Spirit and His ministry among us.  More often than not, the power, presence and influence of the Holy Spirit is sadly lacking in many Christians' lives and in their churches.  Why is that?  Worldliness and sin obviously can be reasons, but I have come to believe that another factor is that many believers have been taught doctrinal error that sadly has "put God in a box."  When false doctrine effectively limits the ministry of the Holy Spirit, as a result, His power and presence is quenched.  “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” (Ephesians 4:30)  “Quench not the Spirit.” (I Thessalonians 5:19)

Some believers are familiar with experiencing the blessing of His beautiful presence, and frankly, when one has experienced the Holy Spirit’s presence, you simply don’t ever want to go back to where His presence is lacking, for it is sadly noticeable.  how wonderful it is to be where the Holy Spirit is not doctrinally quenched,  To illustrate, I have had the joy of bringing some of my students who were new to one such spirit-filled church.  They had only been to other churches on rare occasions, so coming here was quite an experience.  We had hardly gotten into the service when I noticed that several of them were “huddling” around one girl who had tears flooding down her face.  She said she couldn’t understand why she was crying because what she was feeling was not sad, instead it was warm and loving.  Later on, another girl experienced it too.  It wasn’t some “emotional trip” that was being “whipped up” by man’s manipulations.  Miranda and Lynn were simply experiencing what was so common here, the wonderful love of God felt through the awesome presence of the Holy Spirit.  I had a feeling that their hearts were being drawn towards God; and sure enough, later that evening, six of those precious kids received Christ as their Saviour.  Then it was my turn to cry tears of joy again.  PTL

Have you ever experienced being present in different Bible believing churches where you can sense the presence of the Holy Spirit in some places, but not in others?  Man’s wisdom dictates that “quality” services have to be carefully planned and orchestrated, and that a traditional order of service be adhered to in a church bulletin.  Sounds good, but it may also “cramp” the working of the Holy Spirit by squeezing Him into another “theological box” of man’s making.

The key is not in being different; it is just being willing to follow the Holy Spirit’s leading.  Satan hates the dynamic influence of the Holy Spirit, and knows full well that when believers and their churches are thus empowered, he is in big trouble.  Therefore, it should come as no surprise that Satan continues to do all within his power to limit, confuse and counterfeit the work of the Holy Spirit.

Scripture tells us that the Holy Spirit should be our teacher and guide.  “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.  Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” (I Corinthinians 2:9-13)  “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” (John 14:26)  “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.”(I John 2:27)  “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.  He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of  mine, and shall shew it unto you.” (John 16:13-14)

Not only does the Bible tell us to depend upon the Holy Spirit, especially as He “illuminates” the truth from the Word, we are warned about turning to man’s wisdom.  “And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God… Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” (I Corinthians 2:4,5&13) “Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: (Isaiah 29:13)

Yet, rarely is this fact emphasized today, for instead of us turning to the Bible and being open for the Holy Spirit to teach us, we seek out man’s “extra-Biblical” means as our primary sources of truth.  We turn to the writings and teachings of man, such as commentaries, books, seminary and Bible School courses, etc..  These may be of some value, but they have been touched by man.  They can never be on the same plain or even come close to approaching the level of the Word and the Holy Spirit.  If they ever replace and usurp the teaching role of the Holy Spirit in our lives, then we in effect are practicing a form of spiritual  idolatry!  But isn’t this really the emphasis of what is going on in today’s Christianity?  “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” (I Corinthians 2:12-13)

For example, when a young man senses the call of God in his life to be a pastor, what is the typical advice given?  Isn’t it to attend a Bible College, institute or seminary?  Of course logic would imply those would be the places to go to really study the Bible and become prepared for ministry; but where in Scripture is this “logic” found?  Does “Study to shew thyself approved unto God…”(II Timothy 2:15) apply just to the confines of a seminary?  Besides, just because a Christian institution has words such as “seminary” or “Bible School” in it’s title, that is no guarantee it is Biblically sound.

What did Saul (Paul) do upon his conversion and call to preach?  “But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace, to reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood;  Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days. But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother.” (Galatians 1:15-19)  Paul could have studied under the tutelage of the church’s “biggest names,” but instead he separated himself to get the perfect preparation for ministry, the combination of the Holy Spirit and the Holy Scriptures.  The astounding results speak for themselves.  What if young men today (that have been called of God to minister, preach etc.), would have the faith to do what Paul did?…  Furthermore, usually when an independent Bible believing church is in need of a pastor, a “pulpit committee” is commissioned to recommend a pastor.  Going by our modern “man’s wisdom,” probably the Apostle Paul would not have the proper credentials to be considered…

I cannot help but wonder what the spiritual condition of the bride of Christ would be like if she got back to real basics; where she wholeheartedly studied the Word of God under the tutelage of the Holy Spirit.   For Jesus said, “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63)  What would the church be like if she was removed from what has been contaminated by the touch of man, even if it has been labeled as “Christian?” Will we ever cleanse ourselves of man’s wisdom or will it take the tribulations of end-times for the bride of Christ to have herself forcefully purged of man’s contaminants?  Have we forgotten “that judgment must begin in the house of God…” (I Peter 4:17)?  Indeed, by usurping the authority of Scripture and quenching the working of the Holy Spirit, man is his own worst enemy.  Furthermore as a result, it should it should come as no surprise that man finds himself more prone for deception.  Satan has plenty of wiles to spare when it comes to the gifts of the Spirit.

For example, regarding the gift of tongues, extreme views emerge when all of the Bible’s verses on the subject are not applied.  Some Christians claim that unless one exhibits the gift of tongues as proof, one is not really filled with the Holy Spirit.  Then “on the opposite side of the coin,” some believers insinuate or openly state that if one speaks in tongues, then it came about by psychological inducement or was even the result of demons “because God doesn’t work that way any more.”  Scripture confirms neither view.  When non-scriptural or “extra-Biblical” abuses of the gifts of the Holy Spirit happen; when believers go “off center” by seeking emotional “highs” resulting from the gifts, rather than seeking the Giver of the gifts (the Holy Spirit), Satan can reap a harvest.  Services can degenerate by man trying to “hype” the crowd through emotionalism.  God never intended that His presence was to be conjured up with artificial stimuli, flashing lights and a “show-biz” mentality.  Indeed the importance of God’s Word can “take a back seat” when manifestations of the Holy Spirit become a believer’s obsession.  If Jesus, the very Son of God was constantly referring to Scripture saying, “It is written…etc.” then shouldn’t we too?  I Timothy 2:15 reminds us to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” We need to know God’s Word so that the Holy Spirit can guide us into all truth; for when parts of Scripture are ignored, man usually ends up “taking center stage.”  When man usurps God’s glory, oftentimes the results are embarrassing to the body of Christ.  Lasting “spiritual fruit” of such movements is in question; in fact they are doomed for failure.

However in another deception, Satan has stymied the work of the Holy Spirit by using a guise labeled doctrine that has no substance in scripture.  He has tricked Christians into thinking that the power and all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit were only for the days of the early church; that since we have the completed Bible in our hands, “God doesn’t need to be so miraculous.”  (Been there, believed that, I am sorry to say.)  When situations arise where gifts of the Holy Spirit have been abused or counterfeited, there is often a tendency for this “anti-gift”  group to critically over-generalize, to incorrectly “lump” all Pentecostals into one extremist camp.  This is not only untruthful, it also causes further alienation within the body of Christ.  When accusations are hurled at fellow Christians from across “both sides of the fence,” it certainly does not appear these believers are being led of the Holy Spirit.  “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.  And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.  Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.”  (Galatians 5:22-26)

Nevertheless, the subject regarding the gifts of the Holy Spirit generally has divided believers into two camps.  There are those who believe that some of the gifts of the Holy Spirit ceased upon the passing away of the early church apostles and when the Bible was completed, (cessationists); and others who believe that all of the gifts have continued (the Pentecostals).  Again, the issue should not be decided on what theologians may say, but instead, what does God's Word say.  Scripture has to be our only authority and our beliefs without question, have to be based upon it.

Ask yourself; (knowing that all Scripture is inspired and that every Word is true) what would be your beliefs, if as a newly saved Christian, you were alone for a considerable amount of time and had only the Bible to learn from? (You were in your own personal “Arabian Desert School of Learning,” as Paul was.)  In the absence of all other forms of doctrinal teaching, what would the Holy Spirit teach you from God's Word?  After studying and meditating on all the verses regarding the gifts of the Holy Spirit, would you emerge a cessationist or a Pentecostal?  As you imagine this situation, perhaps you are realizing that you are holding to a doctrinal position that is based on man's interpretation of Scripture, rather than Scripture itself.

Simply put, the cessationist view is based upon the “wisdom” of man, (as promoted by CI Scofield’s Bible) and not the Words of God.  (Again it is good to remind ourselves that every Word of God is true.)  To hold to this position, no less than 70 verses, in effect, have been shelved and ignored, especially chapters 12, 13, and 14 of I Corinthians.  An assumption has been made that the gifts of tongues, prophesy and knowledge have ceased, based upon verse 10 of I Corinthians 13.  It says, “But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away." To claim that the words, ("that which is perfect") refers to the completed Bible and therefore those gifts were only for the apostles, (not for now), is without any backing from God's Word.  Furthermore to ASSUME that “that which is perfect is come” refers only to the completed canon of Scripture which in turn, negated the gifts of the Holy Spirit, not only is totally without any Scripture confirmation, this assumption effectively removes at least 70 other verses that claim the opposite!!!  In the pro-cessationist Bible by Scofield, (who held English apostates Westcott and Hort in high esteem), his notes for I Corinthians 14 excused the use of the Holy Spirit’s gifts in the early church days because he claimed it was a “primitive church!!”  Primitive church!!!  God help us if only today, the anemic Bride of Christ could be so “primitive!!!       Adding insult to the Holy Spirit, Scofield’s belief of dispensationalism attacks the very Word as well.  For in his “thinking” he shuns the fact that each and every Word of God (with warnings of it being adding to or taken away) is absolutely pure, true, precious, and preserved.  Scripture for us it seems, according to Scofield applies to just the prison epistles written by Paul…ie Dispensationalism negates the rest of Scripture and “explains away” the time of the early church’s gifts being applicable to our times.  This view has tragically affected nearly all Baptist churches.  I believe this man made doctrine has not only done much to quench the Holy Spirit’s power and presence in their midst, it has also set the stage to question the authority of Scripture and therefore usher in the present day confusion  scenario of hundreds of counterfeit new versions of the Bible.

Scripture backs up Scripture.  It never contradicts itself.  "Is God a man that He should lie?"  Did God lie when He said in His Word that every Word of God is true?  Did He make a mistake in having all those verses define the gifts of the Spirit, detail their edification in the church, and then after a few years, realize He had better cancel them out?  Of course not. This verse can only point to the coming event when Jesus Christ comes again, ushering in a time when Christians, literally “out of this world,” will have no need to utilize these gifts of the Holy Spirit.

When Words of the Bible in reality, have been eliminated, the resulting doctrinal error will inevitably spawn spiritual anemia.  How sad it is, for in the lives of individual believers and their churches the power and presence of the Holy Spirit is quenched.  The consequences of unbelief are serious.  In Matthew 13:57-58, Jesus said, “…A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.”  Most of my life, I existed in churches whose doctrinal error stifled the Holy Spirit.   I do not believe these pastors and their congregations did this deliberately; for we thought we were indeed Biblically sound on the subject.  Actually we were just reflecting what we had been taught by a theologian, and in reality a belief that is based on only an assumption reflecting the “wisdom of man.”.  Perhaps we were not so inclined to really apply God’s Word on the subject, because we were taught to distance ourselves from those “emotional Pentecostals.”  (After all, didn’t churches suffer splits when they appeared on the scene?)  Our “image” was to appear scholarly or intellectual, (supposedly Biblical) shying away from “those weird activities” (especially tongues), even insinuating that anyone speaking in tongues was “was of the devil.”

Have instances occurred where tongues were inspired by evil spirits?  Of course!  Can you think of any thing God has given, that Satan hasn’t attempted to counterfeit and destroy?  For example, one story that seems “to have made the rounds,” in many fundamental churches goes something like this: [A missionary returned from working in an uncivilized part of the world; and while attending a service in an American church, tongues began to be publicly spoken.  To his surprise, not only did the missionary recognize the remote dialect, but also that the words were blaspheming God!] But let us not be “ignorant of his devices,” for the devil desires to counterfeit and dishonor anything that God has ordained, especially in the vital areas of His Word and the Holy Spirit’s ministry.  In addition when “gibberish” emotes from the flesh or the soul life, then that is not of the Holy Spirit.  But if all the gifts are being exercised, (such as the gift of discerning the spirits) then such false activity would be exposed. The problem though, is that when this story was told in cessationist churches, it appears that the purpose was to lump all tongues speaking together into one category, (Satan’s).  That makes as much sense as claiming that all preachers preach heresy just because some have denied the gospel.   Or to put it another way, “Have we stopped eating Mom’s cookies just because she happened to burn one batch?”  It is true that there have been examples of “extra-Biblical” activities in the Pentecostal camp in recent years; but instead of evaluating the situations only in the light of God’s Word, cessationists have often responded by overreacting. In their minds they “removed” the problems associated with the gifts of the Spirit, by manufacturing (on an assumption), a non-Biblical doctrinal position; but in doing so, have quenched the vital presence and power of the Holy Spirit.  In effect, they “have thrown the baby out with the wash.”

In another way cessationist churches have further distanced themselves from Pentecostals, is by frowning on the practice of lifting up hands in worship to the Lord. (It’s a charismatic thing you know.)  Incredibly, some churches would escort worshipers out if they attempted this action.  Actually, it is just another example of shelving Bible verses, such as I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land.  Selah. (Psalms 143:6), “I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.” (I Timothy 2:8), and as well (Psalms 28:2, 63:4, 134:2, and 141:2)  Or looking at it another way, does the Bible say anywhere that worshipers should not lift up their hands?  I admit, that because I had been in churches most of my life where lifting hands was not done, I felt hesitant at first. But I soon got over it because I realized that worship truly became much more meaningful, and more honoring to God.  Besides, obedience to the Word of God is far more important than whether or not I felt comfortable raising my hands.

It is also true that in some situations, Pentecostals have been known to “get carried away” in some services, thereby ignoring I Corinthians 14:40, “Let all things be done decently and in order.”  But in another extreme, some Christians insist that their church services be so controlled and placid, (reflecting intellect as opposed to emotion you know…) that they ignore verses such as, “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.  Sing unto the LORD with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm. With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King. Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together. Before the LORD; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.” (Psalms 98:4-9);  “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.” (Psalms 100:1-2) or “Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.” (Isaiah 12:6) as well as: Luke 19:37; Revelation 5:11-12; II Samuel 6:15; I Chronicles 15:28; II Chronicles 15:14; Ezra 3:11-13; Psalms 5:11; 47:1; Zephaniah 3:14; and Zechariah 9:9.  Yet when it comes to being a fan at a sporting event, many of these “sedated” worshipers can scream and get animated about the play of their beloved team or the lousy umpires, with no trouble at all.  Does it make sense to “look down their noses” at believers who get excited and exuberant about what the Lord has done; and then do an “about-face” over a mere game that has absolutely no significance with “eternity’s values in view?” When the Ark of the Lord was returned to Jerusalem, I suppose to some, King David didn’t look very stately in his rejoicing, shouting, leaping and dancing before the Lord.  Perhaps some worshipers today would find David’s exuberance disgusting, and line up with his wife Michal, for she certainly didn’t agree with his actions.  She “despised him in her heart” (II Samuel 6) and spitefully couldn’t resist “letting him have it!”  The Bible also says, “Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.”

Due to my lack of knowing scripture and my assumption that our “brand” of seminaries and preachers were correct on the subject of the gifts of the Spirit, I didn't realize I was in error.   I was quenching the presence of the Holy Spirit.  My walk with the Lord was like trying to drive a six cylinder car that was experiencing a lack of power because two of my spark plugs were badly fouled.  Yet, I continued to sputter along, unaware of my plight, because that condition was all that I had ever known.   However, I knew some genuine Pentecostal Christians, such as the Favatis and the Gogolens, and I had seen the “fruit of the Spirit” manifested in their lives.  Their example, coupled with certain Bible verses, forced me to sometimes wonder if what I had been taught was actually sound doctrine.  I also sensed at times in the fundamentalist church services that something was missing, but having grown up in that environment, I just assumed that we were right and that’s the way it was.  I am so thankful to the Lord that through a variety of circumstances, in conjunction with His Word, He has led me to realize the importance of ALL of His Words.

A former Dallas Seminary professor, Jack Deere, has written an “eye-opening” book for fundamentalists called, “Surprised by the Power of the Holy Spirit.” Our background experiences have been similar and I appreciate so much that he has been willing to take a stand for God’s Word and the ministry of the Holy Spirit.  Another publication, a booklet by Wm. B. Young, entitled, “The Gifts of the Spirit,” (Osterhus Pub. House, 4500 W. Broadway, Mpis., MN 55422) is simply anointed. My words are inadequate to describe the joy, the presence, and the relationship of the Holy Spirit when He is not quenched.  “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” (Romans 14:17)  Indeed, my heart goes out to believers, their churches and their pastors, who are really good-hearted Christians, but are missing out on all that God wants to give them.  If only their beliefs would focus on all of the Words of Scripture, instead of being sidetracked by man’s assumptions and Pentecostal abuses.  Zechariah 4:6 sums it up, “…Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.”
